Danny Rosales

Hi again, guys.

As part of our annual community outreach project, The Great 88 will again hold a Medical Mission on April 10, 2010 (Saturday) at batch mate, Kapitan Marlon Enriquez', Brgy. Lourdes Northwest (Pampang) Barangay Hall. The half-day activity (6am to 12pm) aims to benefit around 150 patients/senior citizens coming from the indigent families of the barangay. They will undergo free blood tests (sugar/cholesterol) and medical check-up. The batch is still looking for sponsors who will donate medicines related to elderly diseases like Diabetes, Hypertension, Common Skin Diseases, Allergies, etc.

We already have an early non-medical sponsor - M Lhuillier c/o batch mate, Dino Gatus, which will sponsor the group's food allowance (merienda/lunch) and will also give away free M Lhullier T-shirts and Towelettes to all the patients (while supply lasts).

As in the previous medical missions conducted by the batch, we are once again soliciting your support in the form of warm bodies who will help us in the conduct of the mission. We need volunteer nurses (could be a batch mate, a relative, a friend or acquaintance or a nursing student) and medical personnel who will assist our batch mate/doctors Edgar Nicolas, Ray Marquez and Ricky Gutierrez. Other batch mates will help organize the patients, keep records and prepare the food and merienda. I still remember our previous volunteers - the nephew of Jesse Paraiso (nursing student of HAU and his friends) and the sisters of Jhoy Aboy who joined the 1st medical mission and the nephew of Joseph Licaros (nursing graduate) who participated in our 2nd medical mission. Hope we could again tap their services this year.

It's going to be another fun-filled, memorable and meaningful day for Batch 88. Please remember the date, April 10 (Saturday) and mark it on your calendar.

For any inquiries, please email or text us (Danny, Nikki Masbang, May Fausto or Alex Quiambao).

Thanks and regards.

Danny Rosales

For your additional information, the winner of the HAU Alumni Family Van Raffle Draw is Ms. Milagros Onea, 70 years old, single, resident of Sta. The raffle was held last December 30, 2009 during the 18th HAU Alumni Homecoming hosted by The Querubins Batch 1984. Speaking of the Homecoming, kudos to our batch mates, Dino Gatus, Gemma Quito, Cathy Nolasco and Mary Ann Dalofin who performed a special dance number during the event. They made our Batch proud. Please View or Print the Election Ballot (you need to have a .pdf reader)

For those who cannot attend our Christmas gathering on December 12, 2009 (6pm), wherein the Election of Officers is scheduled around 7pm, kindly cast your votes thru email.  Send you email votes to Mr. Danny Rosales (dan_say27@yahoo.com) and cc to Alex Quiambao (mgamis@yahoo.com) on or before December 5, 2009 so we can validate and tabulate all online-votes prior to our actual election.

As for the Christmas gathering, the schedule is December 12, 2009, Saturday, 6pm.  Venue is 3rd floor of the K2 Drugstore infront of AUFMC (Mc Arthur Hi-way).  No monetary contribution/payment has been decided, instead, a POT LUCK gathering has been agreed since no official count of attendees can be estimated.  Some batchmates already committed to bring the food, beverages and snacks, but we still need some more in order to make the gathering a feast for all attendees.  To make it more simple and affordable, attire is CASUAL, in either RED OR GREEN top.  And an exchange gift has been suggested, wherein minimum amount for those who want to be part of the Exchange Gift portion is P200.00 only.

Please help us invite our other batch mates to attend our annual gathering as well as all The Great 88 activities.

Thank you very much for your usual support.

Yours truly,

Alex Quiambao

Please read:  BENEFITS OF DONATING BLOOD__

Hello Batch Mates,

How are you, guys? Hope you're all doing well. Would just like to relay to you the batch activities that we have lined-up for the month of December. It's going to be another busy Christmas season for The Great 88. As you all know, the 2-year term of the present set of officers will end this year. We have scheduled the following activities to have a smooth transition of leadership and give the incoming officers the adequate resources to continue the vision and mission of the batch:

1. December 12 (6pm to 11pm) - Mini-Reunion/Christmas Gathering and Election of Officers - There is no definite venue yet for this activity but we are planning a simple and inexpensive activity to just gather the batch mates and hold a small reunion the highlight of which is the election of the new set of officers. Venue to be announced later. Election Committee Head, Alex Quiambao has sent a separate email detailing the election guidelines. The new set of officers will start their term on January 01, 2010.

2. December 19 (8am to 12pm) - Give Blood on Christmas - A blood letting activity to be held at the AUF Hospital wherein the batch through the donation of its members and in cooperation with AUF Hospital, will establish a blood bank for the exclusive use of all Batch 88 members and their families. In case of emergency or sudden blood requirement of any members of the batch, we can allow the hospital to get/withdraw from the said batch blood bank. Dr. Ricky Gutierrez will soon release an article regarding the benefits of donating blood every once in a while. This activity will be discussed further during the mini-reunion/election.

3. December 30 (4pm to 5pm) - Batch 88 Cash Pa-Raffle for a Cause - We have initiated another fund-raising project via cash raffle draw (this project is wholly initiated by Batch 88). The proceeds shall be used to partially finance the outreach and scholarship projects of the batch. From the proceeds, we are going to donate a lumpsum amount to a specific charitable institution (we're still choosing between Bahay Bata and Bahay Pag-Ibig). Part of the proceeds will also go to the funds of the batch in preparation for our hosting of the alumni homecoming in 2013. Cost of ticket is only Php25.00 each. Prizes are as follows:

1st Prize - Php50,000.00 Cash
2nd Prize - Php30,000.00 Cash
3rd Prize - Php20,000.00 Cash

Plus 5 consolation prizes of Php1,000.00 each and a solicitor's prize of Php5,000.00.

4. December 30 (6pm to 12am) - HAU Grand Alumni Homecoming - After the raffle draw, batch mates will proceed to the HAU Gym to attend and participate in the 18th HAU Grand Alumni Homecoming. The Great 88 is one of the batches chosen to present a 5-minute production (song/dance) number. But more than the intermission number, our purpose is to observe the conduct of the affair and the hosting style/gimmicks of The Querubins, the host Batch 84 for our reference in 2013. Incidentally, the Alumni Car Pa-Raffle Draw was extended from October 17 to December 30. The Php1.2M White Toyota Hi-Ace Commuter Van Grand Prize was already purchased by the Alumni Association and is currently on display at the VM David Car Center along Friendship Highway in Angeles City. If you still want to sell or buy tickets (Php100.00 each), we still have available tickets c/o May Fausto.

We are inviting all batch mates to participate and support all the projects mentioned above. These 4 undertakings are all equally important and we are soliciting your cooperation and participation to ensure the success of these activities.

For the raffle draw, we need your assistance and support in selling/buying the tickets. Interested parties may call or text May Fausto at (045) 6255623 or 09189454571 or just visit her at BDO SM City Clark. You can also coordinate your assistance via email. A sample of the raffle ticket is hereby attached for your reference.

Our next meeting will be on November 21. Every week thereafter we're going to hold a meeting to finalize the details of the above-mentioned activities. That's all for now, guys. Thank you in advance for your support and may God bless you and your loveones. Regards to all.

Danny Rosales

September 29, 2009

Hi batch mates, please be informed that we will have a special batch meeting this Saturday, October 3, 2009, 7pm. As usual, our venue will be Garden Dine in Balibago. Saturday will also be the deadline for the remittance of the proceeds of the HAU Alumni Van Pa-Raffle ticket sales. Although the Raffle draw date is on October 17, we need to remit the proceeds early so that the Alumni Association can gauge/measure if the proceeds is already sufficient to cover the cost of the Hi-Ace Commuter Van. For those who are still willing to buy tickets, we can still accommodate your purchase up to Oct 15. If you cannot attend the meeting this Saturday, please find time to remit the ticket sales to May Fausto at BDO SM Clark on or before Oct. 3.

Would also like to make a couple of announcements. Firstly, in view of the recent and unprecedented epic calamity that struck the country last weekend, our batch, The Great 88, donated Php2,000.00 to the flood victims through the BDO Foundation, Inc. who will conduct medical/relief operations for the benefit of the victims in the coming days. The foundation has already announced a support pledge of Php10Mn earlier this week. If some of you would like to make individual donations through the foundation, you can make cash deposits to BDO Foundation, Inc. through its BDO Account No. 3008026717 (BDO Main Office Branch). Of course there are other worthy foundations out there to choose from (Kapuso Foundation of GMA 7 or the Sagip Kapamilya of ABS-CBN). Local TV Station CLTV 36 (San Fernando, Pampanga) is also accepting donations in cash or in kind for the benefit of the landslide victims at Arayat, Pampanga where 12 people died and several hundreds are either injured, homeless or missing. CLTV 36's office is located along Olongapo-Gapan Road (beside Carworld), Dolores, City of San Fernando. Thank you in advance for all your kind-hearted and generous support.

My second announcement is about our coming batch elections this December. You can now send in your nominations for active batch mates to be included in the list of candidates for The Great 88's fifteen (15) Board of Directors for 2010 to 2012. You can nominate a minimum of 5 candidates and a maximum of 15 names. The present board will allot 3 Directors from the USA chapter so you can also nominate batch mates from the US. But remember, the names that you will submit will just be candidates for now. We will limit the list of candidates to 30 active names and will reveal the list before December. Batch mates will then elect the new 15 Board of Directors from the names on the list on Election Day tentatively set on December 12.

Details of the 2 announcements above plus other matters concerning the batch will be thoroughly discussed during our special meeting this Saturday. So if you're available, please do attend the meeting and come early please.

Thanks and regards.

Hi everyone. The Great 88 officers would like to thank our batchmate, Christina Hipolito(IV-Cobalt), for supporting our fund-raising project (she bought 30 alumni raffle tickets) and also made a generous donation to the batch. Christina is now back in Germany with her family after spending a short vacation here in the country. She keeps herself updated with the latest projects of the batch through our website and her inclusion in our yahoo group. Thanks again, Tina.

The latest issue of the HAU Alumni Newsletter is now available at our website (thanks again to Jesse). If you want to know the projects and events being undertaken by the other HAU (older) batches then just read the newsletter. Hindi naman nahuhuli ang batch natin when it comes to projects and community service. Our participation in the medical/dental mission of the alumni was also featured in the paper.

Lastly,The Great 88 was chosen by The Querubins (Batch 84) as one of the 10 HAU batches who will perform/make a presentation during the Alumni Homecoming on December 30. Performance can be a song or dance or both with a maximum time of 5 minutes only. The good thing is that each group can choose their own music/song and it will not be a contest. Our Auditor, Dino Gatus, is in charge of the presentation. For those who want to join the intermission number (this is your chance to perform again inside the HAU Gym) or if you have ideas or suggestions about the presentation please just let us know. Dino, can we do a Michael Jackson tribute? Batch 84 is already preparing a Bagets-style number. Also, the nomination for this year's Most Outstanding Alumni Awards is now open. Nomination forms are available at the alumni website www.hauaai.com.

Next batch meeting is on September 28 (Saturday), venue to be announced later (might be held at a residence of a batch mate to increase attendance). Remittance and sale of the alumni raffle tickets is still on-going c/o May Fausto at BDO SM Clark.

That's all for now, guys. Thanks and regards.

August 25, 2009

Hello, batch mates. If you're available this Saturday, August 29, please attend our Batch Special Meeting, 7pm, at Garden Dine, Balibago, Angeles City. For those who were given the Alumni Family Van Pa-Raffle Tickets to sell, we will have our partial remittance of proceeds at the meeting. The Alumni Office has set September 30 as the deadline for the remittance of proceeds.

So I am again appealing to all The Great 88 members here and abroad (please, please) to support this fund-raising project of ours (in cooperation with HAUAAI) by either buying tickets (P100 only) or helping us in selling the tickets. We still have sooooo many tickets to dispose of to be able to achieve our target commission of 30% and we only have a little more than 30 days to go before the final remittance.

For those who want to buy or sell tickets, kindly get in touch with us via email or text or just visit May Fausto at her office at SM Clark. Would like to thank Joseph Licaros for sending his nephew at SM Clark just to buy tickets. Also to Renie Bognot for his continued support and to Oliver Garcia for getting 100 tickets (for distribution at the City Hall and Hall of Justice employees). Needless to say, proceeds of this project shall be used to finance our various programs and charity projects. Incidentally, our batch's participation in the Alumni Medical/Dental Mission was featured in this quarter'sHAU Alumni Newsletter. Will try to send Jesse the soft copy of the whole newsletter so we can post it to our website.

Thanks and regards to all. May God bless all the members and families of The Great 88.

July 19, 2009

To all Batch 88 Members,

Hello, guys, how are you? Hope you're all doing fine amidst the global crisis and swine flu outbreak. Just want to report to you some of the projects/events that our batch is currently undertaking/planning to undertake in the coming days and months. These projects/events were discussed during our meeting last July 4, 2009 at Garden Dine. As usual, I'm relaying to you all this information to solicit your support and cooperation.

On top of the list is our ongoing fund-raising project,

a.) the HAU Alumni Association Family Van Raffle Draw (see attachment) wherein the batch stands to get 30% of total ticket sales (Ticket Price is Php100.00 only but the Grand Prize is a brand-new Toyota Hi-Ace Commuter Van worth about Php1.2Mn) assuming we're able to sell a minimum of 1,000 tickets. However, our batch was given an allotment of 3,000 tickets, the highest among the batches, because we are perceived as one of the most active HAU batches right now. We grabbed this opportunity not only to raise funds for the batch but also to support the scholarship and outreach projects of the Alumni Association, which are the main beneficiaries of the car raffle draw. Draw date will be on October 17, 2009 (the 18th Anniversary Celebration of HAUAAI) and I'm now inviting all batch mates to support this project by either buying tickets or help us sell the tickets. As of today, we were already able to distribute/dispose 1,000 tickets and there are still 2,000 tickets left. Interested buyers/sellers may contact any of the batch officers or they can go directly to May Fausto at BDO SM Clark, Mondays to Fridays, 10am to 7pm. Her contact nos. are (045) 6255623 or 6255636. Bottomline: Assuming the batch is able to sell all the 3,000 tickets, we will raise additional funds of Php90,000.00 net (20% of the proceeds will be automatically added to our Great 88 Scholarship Fund which is still at Php10,000.00 as of date).

Secondly, we're planning to hold a

b.)Mini-Reunion/Get Together this December. Tentative date is December 12, 2009 (Saturday), 6pm onwards, but with no specific place yet. It's going to be either a pool or clubhouse party. We'll be having this mini-reunion basically because of 3 reasons:
1. To accommodate the batch mates who were not able to attend the grand reunion last year;
2. To report the present status of the batch (membership, financial standing, ongoing & accomplished projects); and
3. To have a smooth transition of power/turnover of duties and records by holding an election for the next set of batch officers.

Item 3 above is the next item on our list which is the

c.) Election of New Set of Officers, December 12, 2009, which will coincide with our mini-reunion this December. The present batch council will release a list of 30 active members of the batch (members in good standing who actively support and participate in batch projects, meetings and the like). From the said list (which will be made available by October or November), all batch 88 members, including those residing/working abroad, will get a chance to elect or nominate the 15 new officers of the batch/members of the batch council. The 15 newly-elected officers will then vote among themselves who will be the next President, VP, Secretary, Treasurer, etc.

Next is

d.) The Great 88 Official ID Card/Discount Card. We're planning to come out with an official ID card for all members of the batch. But this ID will not just be an ordinary ID, it will also serve as a discount/privilege card which our batch mate can use every time they visit a store/clinic/shop owned by a fellow batch mate. This will work both ways since batch mates will also now patronize or prioritize the stores/clinics/shops of Great 88 members. We will release the official ID once we get the consent of the interested/participating batch mates with stores/clinics/shops (to know the amount of discounts or privileges that they are willing to extend). They will be easily recognized since we will provide them with stickers that read "Great 88 Members Welcome Here".

Lastly, we're also planning to undertake a

e.) Year-end Fund-raising Project via a Raffle Draw (draw date will likewise be on December 12, 2009) that will benefit a particular charitable institution like Bahay Pag-Ibig, Tahanang Walang Hagdan or Nikki Masbang Foundation (joke). This raffle draw will not be as ambitious as the Car Raffle Draw of the Alumni Association. Ticket Price will only be Php25.00 each and total cash prizes would only amount to Php110,000.00 (1st Prize Php50k, 2nd Prize Php30k, 3rd Prize Php20k and 10 consolation prizes of Php1k each). From the proceeds, we will donate a specific amount to our chosen charitable institution/s. We have not yet identified the beneficiary/ies so we are still open for your suggestions.

That's all for now, guys. If you have any comments, reactions, suggestions, contributions or any forms of support to any of the five (5) projects mentioned above, just reply to this email or call/text me at 09266758637. BTW, our next batch meetings are tentatively scheduled on August 1, September 5 and October 3. If you happen to be in town, kindly join our meetings.

May God bless all members of The Great 88 including our families and love ones.

Thanks and regards.

May 26, 2009

Dear all,

First of all, we would like to extend our warmest appreciation to all our batchmates who supported our batchmate, Ms. Irene Paguio Dizon-Serrano, in her financial needs. The batch was able to raised P4,000.00 and was given to her last Sunday, thru our "satellite office" at BDO SM-Clark Branch (thru the kindess of Ms May Fausto).

Again, we, officers of the batch, are knocking at your kind hearts in behalf of the following batchmates who have contacted us (Danny Rosales and I), to ask for support in terms of prayer and/or finances as they're loved-ones are in a critical situation:

1. Allan Guanlao - Mother was hospitalized (placed in an ICU) due to Sepsis
2. Celia Lacap - Brother was hospitalized till now (also placed in an ICU) due to Sepsis
3. Lucita Bautista - her 10 months old baby is in need of an Operation due to Biliary Atresia, a rare disease of the liver
4. Arvin Rivera - Mother passed-away today

May we request that prayers will be offered in their behalf for them to be comforted in these trying times. And, again, for those who are generous to impart some financial assistance, we request that this be coursed through our official Batch Bank Account at BDO - SM Clark Branch. Details as follows:

Account Name: HAU High School Batch 1988
Account No : 1310142198
Bank : BDO - SM City Clark Branch
Swift Code : BNORPHMM (for those deposits coming from abroad)

We have decided that deposits credited to our batch account from now until June 7, 2009 will be considered as financial assistance to the above-named batchmates, and will be forwarded to them accordingly.

May we request those who will extend financial support to send us, Danny (dan_say27@yahoo. com) or Alex (mgamis@yahoo. com), confirmation of your deposit/s. Should you want to remain annonimous, please send us email also and inform us that you want to remain annonimous.

Thank you very much and hoping for your usual kind assistance.

God bless us all.

Yours truly,

Hi Guys,

I'm very happy and proud to report that our Medical and Dental Mission held earlier today at 174th Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (Angeles City District Jail), Sto. Domingo, Angeles City was a huge success. This outreach project was held in cooperation with HAU Alumni Association and HAU HS Batch 1966. Doctors/dentists from other batches also joined the event. Around 130 to 150 male/female inmates were diagnosed/checked- up by our hardworking doctors and another 120 inmates were serviced by the dentists for tooth extractions. Medicines for hypertension, diabetes, flu, fever, cough, headaches, tuberculosis, allergies and other skin diseases plus antibiotics and other vitamins were provided by the HAU Alumni and HAU Batch 1966. The number of patients represents just about 20% of the total number of inmates as the District Jail reportedly holds around 1,300 prisoners at present. So we might be holding more medical missions to BJMP in the future to accommodate the other inmates who were not covered by today's visit.

As I've mentioned above, I'm proud to be a part of this mission and doubly proud to be a member of The Great 88 since our batch is continuously making relevant contributions to our society especially to the under privileged and sometimes neglected members of the community. City Prosecutor and batch mate, Oliver Garcia, who joined us in the mission, for his part was also able to get a short list of inmates with minor and non-drug related cases who, upon review of their case and conduct inside the jail, might be able to get their liberty upon his recommendation and/or approval.

At the luncheon held after the mission at the Lifegiver Office along Henson St., Angeles City, the Alumni Association presented to The Great 88 a Plaque of Appreciation "in grateful recognition and acknowledgment for their active support and invaluable service rendered during HAU Alumni Association Medical and Dental Mission..." . Also given separate plaques of appreciation were our doctors/batch mates Dr. Ricky Gutierrez, Dr. Edgar Nicolas and Dr. Raymundo Marquez. Other batch mates who joined the mission were Renie Bognot, Architect Manny Ramos, Oliver Garcia, Gemma Quito, Catherine Nolasco, Kapitan Marlon Enriquez, Jay Dela Cruz and yours truly. We were also fortunate to be joined by Joseph Licaros' niece, Charlene Tareo, a registered nurse and also an alumnus of HAU.

I would also like to recognize and thank our batch mates Peter Catahan, Milton Cabiong, Joseph Licaros and Joy Aboy for providing assistance (cash/in kind) and support not only to the medical mission but also for answering our call for support in behalf of our batch mate, Irene Dizon.

Thank you again, guys, God bless us all and more power to The Great 88.

Danny Rosales

PS, Thanks for the pictures, Renie, mabilis la palang medevelop, mapali pali la pa.

Dear all,

In my capacity as the Batch's PRO, and with the approval of our Batch President, Mr. Danilo C. Rosales, we are officially making a Financial Solicitation in behalf of our batchmate, MS. IRENE PAGUIO DIZON-SERRANO, who is currently in-need of our financial assistance.

For your information, sometime around the 21st of April 2009, Ms. Irene made a text communication to Mr. Rosales asking for assistance from the batch. The following day, Dan and I made a short phone-meeting regarding the said request, and Danny instructed me to find as many details as possible relative to our batchmate's request. This I did and found out that Ms. Irene's mother is confined at the ICU of AUF and is in critical condition, and that the family is need of financial assistance (communication was made through text as I have other things to attend-to). On the 25th of April, I received the news from Irene that her mother already passed-away.

Up until now, the family are looking for ways to settle their financial obligations, and it is in this light that we, batch officers, have initiated a financial solicitation in her favor.

For those who are generous to impart some financial assistance, we request that this be coursed through our official Batch Bank Account at BDO - SM Clark Branch. Details as follows:

Account Name: HAU High School Batch 1988
Account No : 1310142198
Bank : BDO - SM City Clark Branch
Swift Code : BNORPHMM (for those deposits coming from abroad)

We have decided that deposits credited to our batch account from now until May 17, 2009 will be considered as financial assistance to Ms. Irene, and will be forwarded to her accordingly.

May we request those who will extend financial support to send us, Danny (dan_say27@yahoo.com) or Alex (mgamis@yahoo.com), confirmation of your deposit/s. Should you want to remain annonimous, please send us email also and inform us that you want to remain annonimous.

Thank you very much and hoping for your usual kind assistance.

God bless us all.

Hello Guys,

Would like to invite you to join this Sunday's (May 10) Medical and Dental Mission, a community outreach project sponsored by HAU Alumni Association in cooperation/coordination with other HAU batches including The Great 88. It will be held at the 174th Police Camp/Detention Center at Sto. Domingo, Angeles City from 8am to 12pm. The project will hopefully benefit all the prisoners/detainees inside the center. Our doctors, Ray Marquez, Ricky Gutierrez, Edgar Nicolas and Jun Reyes, already committed their expertise and participation. Batch mates are welcome to attend and/or give any form of assistance and support. Aside from our doctors, already confirming their attendance are Renie Bognot (on short vacation back from Saudi Arabia), Arch. Manny Ramos, Nora Dangca, Jonas Pamintuan, Arvin Rivera, Nikki Masbang and yours truly. Jhoy Aboy will contribute medical supplies to be coursed thru her sister, Jhen, who will drop them off at BDO SM Clark.

If there are others who would like to participate, please submit your names via email or text me at 09266758637. Our meeting place is at BDO Angeles-Sto. Rosario Branch (in front of Carmelite, near Villa Angela Subd), 7:30am. Please wear your Batch 88 T-shirts so that the other alumni/batches will easily recognize us. If you have friends or family members (with nursing or medical background) who would like to assist during the mission, they are very much welcome to attend.

Thanks and regards. Advance Happy Mothers' Day to all mother batch mates.

Danny

April 16, 2009

Guys, hope to see you on May 2. This will be our first general meeting since our reunion last December. The Alumni association is cooking up a fund-raising project which would benefit not only the intended beneficiaries (scholars, alma mater, community) but also all willing HAU batches who would like to become its partners/agents. An alumni-wide medical/dental mission is also going to be held on May 10 which would benefit all inmates of the Angeles City Detention Center (Sto. Domingo, Angeles City). Batch 88 will actively participate in this community project so we will again need volunteers who are willing to support the project. Details of these activities and more (willing donors/sponsors for our Great 88 Scholarship Fund) will be discussed in our General Membership Meeting on May 2. Again, in behalf of all the officers of Batch 88, I'm inviting everyone to attend the meeting and/or extend assistance. Thanks and regards.

January 30, 2009

Hi guys,

The Great 88, together with other alumni batches and school departments and organizations, successfully participated in the recently held HAU 75th Jubilee Grand Float Parade.  The parade and street dancing activities took place last Wednesday, January 28, which started at 2pm, at   the Nepo Mart Quadrangle (assembly area) and ended at 5:00pm at the HAU grounds, after passing through Sto. Rosario, Lakandula, Miranda and Rizal Streets in Angeles City.  The event also signaled the start of the 4-day Annual HAU University Days (more commonly known as Fun Time during our days).

The mood during the 3-hour long activity was very festive and jovial with lots of dancing and merry making among the participants (an estimated 3,000 high school and college students participated in the mardi gras celebration).  Traffic stood still in the Angeles City town proper as all roads leading to the parade route were temporarily closed to traffic.  The Alumni/Batch floats were at the tail end of the parade.  Batch 88 paraded a Dragon Float with a chinese theme (since we just celebrated chinese new year) and also because our year 88 is associated with the dragon year representing good luck and prosperity.  As was our normal tradition during parades/motorcades, participating batch mates gave away candies to passers-by/onlookers.  The oldest batch in attendance was Batch 1957.  It was another memorable experience for the batch since this was just the first time that our batch participated in a float parade with just a short notice from the HAU Admin/organizers.

Incidentally, the Alumni Association Induction Ceremony also took place last Wednesday, 1:00 pm at the HAU Boardroom located at the 4/F of the newly-constructed San Francisco de Javier Building (new Library/Theater).  I was officially sworn in as Auditor of the association.  HAU President, Mrs. Arlyn S. Villanueva, led the oath taking ceremony.  A simple lunch (sponsored by Davies Paints) followed at the building's Executive Lounge which was attended by all Alumni officers and HAU administrators and officials.

I would like to thank the following batch mates who actively participated in the design and construction of our dragon float and also those who joined us during the parade proper:

1. Alex Quiambao (who was also the driver of the float/truck and who voluntered their residence in Marisol as the construction site of our float for 2 consecutive days).
2. Janet Soliman (who also loaned as their delivery truck for 2 days so we could convert it into a dragon float).
3. Manny Ramos (designed, conceptualized and construct the dragon head).
4. Angie Ancheta
5. Manolito David
6. Arvin Rivera
7. Aries Bugaoan
8. Nikki Masbang (who donated the styro materials for our huge 88 logo)
9. Ener Balajadia
10. Amphie Cabrera
11. May Fausto
12. Mina Nolasco
13. Manny Montoya
14. Melvin Mendoza

We will be uploading the parade pictures soon so please watch out for it.  For our next activity, we are now contemplating on the details of our 1st fund-raising project for 2009.  A lot of suggestions have been given already - from cockfight derby to inter-batch basketball tournaments or concert for a cause or a repeat of our bingo social - but we haven't decided yet on the specific undertaking.  But the date will either be in March or April to be immediately followed by another charity project.  We will keep you posted for more updates.

Thanks and regards.

Grand Alumni REUNION UPDATE

Hi batch mates, 19 members of The Great 88 joined the 17th HAU Grand Alumni Homecoming festivities yesterday held at the HAU Gym and PE grounds. This year's homecoming was hosted by Kalayaan Batch 1983 who did a wonderful, wonderful job, and I should say, spent a huge fortune in holding the event. The musical homecoming activity was divided in 3 parts - Part 1 is registration, election, mini-shows, fireworks display and fun-time style dining (held at the PE grounds outside the gym from 4pm to 7:30pm with around 7 food concessionaires to choose from); Part 2 is the main program which lasted until 10:30pm with the theme - A World of Music for the Global Filipino, introduction of the batches, alumni honorees, dance presentations of 8 different batches, raffle draws, turnover of hosting chores from Batch 83 to Batch 84 and announcement of the 5 newly-elected members of the Board of Trustees (I was fortunate to be 1 of the 5 elected officers garnering around 230 votes and the newest/youngest member of the Board since the other 4 were re-elected officers belonging to older batches); Part 3 was ballroom and disco dancing and singing which lasted until 12am.

Next year's festivities will be hosted by The Querubins, HS Batch 1984. Our batch will actively participate on all succeeding homecomings to be able to get a good glimpse of the ins and outs of the event so that our batch will be very much prepared when our turn to host comes in 2013.
Conservative estimate of the cost of yesterday's event is roughly around P600k to P700k. The event's Director, Peter De Vera, and his dance troupe were reportedly paid around P250k to stage the 2-hour program.

Overall, it was a fun-filled, enjoyable and memorable activity (a one of a kind birthday party for me too) with world-class performances from Mr. De Vera's dancers (the costumes and the stage and entrance design provide a Las Vegas style atmosphere). Tanduay provided an all-night long free taste of their products and our male batch mates are more than happy to oblige and take samples (lots of actually). The 19 batch mates who attended were:

1. Alex Quiambao
2. Janet Josef
3. May Fausto
4. Danny Rosales
5. Ricky Gutierrez
6. Mei Bauzon
7. Rosario Bautista
8. Ederminda Malbas
9. Angie Ancheta
10. Maribel M. Feliciano
11. Aries Bugaoan
12. Arvin Rivera
13. Manolito David
14. Anthony Guintu
15. Melvin Quizon
16. Edwin Salunga
17. Rowena Canlas
18. Angelito Pineda
19. Jorge Sombillo, Jr.

This year's attendance of Batch 88 is already the largest figure of our batch's attendance on a homecoming event considering that previous years' attendees were only around the vicinity of 7 to 11. We need to improve and increase our number every year going to 2013 so that we'll get to bring our full force to our own homecoming 5 years from now.

Lastly, thank you to all those who supported my bid to the Alumni Board. Rest assured that I will bring the mission and vision of The Great 88 to the attention of the Alumni Board of Trustees.

Regards, God bless and Advance Happy New Year!

Danny Rosales

12/16/2008

Sorry for my delayed report about last Saturday's grand reunion.  It took me 3 days to recover my sapped energy.  What a tiring day it was.  But it was all worth it.  All the activities were well attended and very much enjoyed by the participating batch mates.  From the early morning Motorcade, to the HAU Campus Tour, to the Thanksgiving mass and up to the Reunion Dinner/get together party that lasted until early morning Sunday.  Hereunder are my blow by blow accounts of the events (warning: this email is quite long and took me 2 days to compose):

MOTORCADE:
Assembly time was 6:30am but batch mates started arriving at Nepo Mart quadrangle as early as 6am (talk about being so excited) led by Motorcade Committee chairpersons Nikki Masbang and Ricky Gutierrez and Alex Quiambao.  Red and white balloons and different variety of Batch 88 Tarp posters were installed on all vehicles.  When I arrived at the scene at around 6:45am, from a distance, I saw a sea of people all wearing red shirts and I knew right there and then that all the morning activities will be successful.  Around 30 vehicles (cars, pick-ups, trucks, motorcycles, vans, convertible benz, etc.) and about 100 batch mates, family members and friends participated in the motorcade.  Our TMG/PNP escorts did not show up.  Good thing our ever reliable police escort, Enrico Layug, arrived with his siren-equipped SUV and saved the day.  But unlike the motorcade Enrico led 5 years ago where the average speed was at 80 to 100 kms/hour (seems more like we're running after a fugitive), this year's motorcade was at a normal speed of 20 to 30 kms/hour only.  We also have 4 batch mates riding in motorcycles that served as additional escorts and traffic controllers.  The batch also hired an official photographer to capture all the events/scenes/history as they transpire.  The motorcade started at 7:45am, from Nepo Mart quadrangle to Bayanihan Park in Balibago via Sto. Rosario St. and MacArthur Highway, then back to Angeles City town proper via Henson St., Rizal St. and Sto. Rosario St. ending at HAU Oval at exactly 9am.  As was the tradition during previous motorcades, the batch gave away candies to passers-by, onlookers and street children.  The batch bought adequate supply of candies this time around to avoid shortage.  But not contented with the batch allocation and afraid to run out of supply, Bob Thomas and Angelo Araneta, came prepared and brought their own supply of candies.  The highlight of the activity was when we entered the campus "to return home" to our beloved HAU.  Since it was a saturday, many students were inside the campus, and we proudly rolled by to the welcoming embrace of our newly-transformed and highly improved Alma Mater.

CAMPUS TOUR:
When all the vehicles were already parked inside the campus (at the oval), the batch mates started socializing and greeting each other for a successful motorcade.  More group photos were taken and everybody was awed by the new look of HAU.  So many improvements have taken place for the past several years.  And right smack at the center of the oval is the on-going construction of the 800-seating capacity HAU Chapel.  We shared a light merienda of sandwiches and juice drinks.  Unfortunately, the sandwiches weren't enough to feed the whole group (the no. of attendees exceeded our estimate).  Our campus tour started when our guides, led by the incumbent HS Principal Ms. Doris Bacamante, arrived to welcome us and gamely showed us around the campus starting at the newly-constructed modern HAU Theater (the former library and social hall) and mini-park (where a beautiful fountain is now installed).  There we met some former teachers who are now HAU administrators like Mr. Frank Adviento (former Math Teacher) who is now the Director of Students' Affairs and Ms. Den Ladrillo-Lacanilao (former Guidance Counselor) who now heads the Admissions Office.  We then proceeded to the Main Bldg. for more photo-ops at the famous main bldg steps (site of most of our class pictures remember?) after which we were ushered inside the Center for Kapampangan Studies for some kapampangan history lessons, exhibits and film showings.  While inside the theater, our male batch mates requested for a preview of the movie "Twilight" and a double film featuring the movie "Diligin Mo ng Suka ang Uhaw na Lumpia".  Our nostalgic trip affected our male batch mates so much that they thought they were inside the Star or Pat Theater all over again.  Of course, neither requests were granted for obvious reasons.  Since it was almost 10:30am when we ended the tour, we were immediately whisked to the HAU Chapel for our thanksgiving mass.

THANKSGIVING MASS:
The mass was officiated by HAU Chaplain, Fr. Danny Dizon.  He mentioned during the homily that he belongs to Batch 94 which means that he was still in grade 4 when we graduated in high school.  But the age difference was not very obvious as some of our batch mates still look young for their age (some did not seem to age at all).  May Fausto, Ronald Quiambao and I participated in the readings and the batch brought cash and basket/boxes of fruits as offerings.  In his homily, Fr. Danny focused on the "restoration of things" and aptly related it to our reunion which means "restoring friendships, ties, relationships and fostering unity and camaraderie".  He also gave an update on the ongoing projects of the university and its present status academically (highest level of accreditation - at par with La Salle and Ateneo and one of the few schools in the Philippines accredited internationally - edging both La Salle and Ateneo).  Future projects include the construction of a 5-storey sports complex (to be constructed at the Gym site where a new oval will be installed) and a new 7-storey building to be constructed at the STA Bldg. site beside the oval.  The mass ended at 11:45am.  I gave a short talk afterwards congratulating all those present for a job well done and for a successful morning activities.  At this point, 50% of our 20th Anniversary Celebration has been accomplished.  The remaining half is just several hours away.

REUNION DINNER/GET TOGETHER PARTY:
Batch officers and registration committee members started arriving as early as 5pm (registration time is 6pm).  Alex Quiambao was already there together with the Smart Bro technicians and they were busy preparing the live streaming facilities (around 10 batch mates from abroad were able to avail of this facility and were very fortunate to witness, live, the reunion program).  July David, Dino Gatus and Gemma Laquindanum were also already in the venue rehearsing their production number.  I brought with me all the batch sponsored raffle items, the streamers and posters for the venue, the flowers and corsages for the guests, the box of red wine (sponsored by Renie Bognot) and all the program paraphernalia, various lists and tickets.  Attendees started trickling in at 5:45pm.  Cong. Tarzan Lazatin's Lechon donation has also arrived including the 5-set (11-piece) furniture raffle items donated by batch mate, Rowena Canlas of BW Enterprises.  Our emcee, Edwin Tarenio, also arrived early as we discussed some minor changes in the program.  Early registrants were treated to more photo-ops with The Great 88 official banner as the back drop.  As more and more batch mates started arriving, it becomes clearer that the batch will oveshoot its estimate of 150 attendees.  And true enough, after a series of head count before the dinner, the batch and Garden Dine agreed to increase the servings to 200 persons (including the guests).  Our main guests, Mrs. Fredeswinda Bauzon (former principal) who came with daughter/batch mate, Charmaine Bauzon and Mr. Nelson Koo, Alumni President, arrived simultaneously together with some of our teachers and Alumni officers.  The program started at 7:20pm (after some of the technical glitches were resolved) with a Doxology, National Anthem and Holy Angel Hymn sang by Aries Bugaoan which I'm sure gave goose bumps to most of the batch mates present.  Our VP, Manny S. David, delivered a welcome remarks and this was followed by an Inspirational Talk by Mrs. Bauzon and an Alumni update from Mr. Koo.

To liven up the program and provide energy and life to the party, the much-awaited production number of Gemma, July and Dino was inserted right after the Alumni Update (this was supposed to be reserved after the dinner, but since the trio already wanted to mingle with the crowd and reveal their talents with matching costumes, hairdos and make-ups, we gamely accommodated their request to perform ahead of schedule).  The 15-minute number was a knock-out with Gemma displaying the same singing voice and style that made her the "people's singing champion" during the 90s and July and Dino providing sexy and exotic back-up dancing prowess and antics to the delight of the very much amused crowd.  The intermission number set the mood of the party.  The batch officers were then introduced one by one starting with myself, Manny David, July David, Janet Josef, May Fausto, Dino Gatus, Alex Quiambao, Charisma Austria, Nikki Masbang and Cris Fajardo.  This was followed by the President's Report where I discussed how the batch got started last March, 2008 - from the accreditation process, creation of by-laws, visions and missions, opening of batch account to the fund-raising project (Charity Bingo), Medical and Dental Mission and the preparations for the Grand Reunion and our participation in the upcoming Diamond Jubilee Alumni Homecoming. We then launched The Great 88 Scholarship Fund where the batch donated a seed money of Php10,000.00 to the said fund, the beneficiaries of which will be the students/children of our less fortunate batch mates.  Guidelines and mechanics for the fund will be put in place by May, 2009.  To augment the fund, the batch will allot 10% to 20% of its net proceeds from all fund-raising projects to be undertaken by the batch beginning January, 2009 aside from the voluntary donations from individual and corporate sponsors.  We also honored some batch mates who provided valuable contributions to the batch and to our 2008 projects by awarding them Certificates of Appreciation.  The awardees were as follows:

Dr. Ricky Gutierrez - Medical/Dental Mission
Dr. Edgar Nicolas - Medical/Dental Mission
Dr. Ray Marquez - Medical/Dental Mission
Dr. Liberato Reyes - Medical/Dental Mission
Dr. Carmela Concepcion-Santos - Medical/Dental Mission
Brgy. Capt. Marlon Enriquez - Charity Bingo & Medical/Dental Mission
Mr. Peter Catahan - Charity Bingo & Medical/Dental Mission
Mr. Jesse Paraiso - The Father of The Great 88 Official Website
The Great 88 USA Chapter Members - The Great 88 Projects for 2008

Afterwards, our Treasurer, May Fausto, presented a short financial report where she discussed all the sources of funds of the batch as well as all the cash disbursements pertaining to each related project and activity conducted by the batch for the year 2008.  The report was as of December 12, 2008 and we shall be preparing a full financial report as of December 31 after all the reunion dusts/receipts/tickets/bills/payables have been settled.  Alex Quiambao, our PR Man, then followed it up with a presentation on all the available communication sites of the batch where batch mates can derive the latest updates and informations about the batch's projects and activities.

Dinner time came and the attendees were treated to a sumptous dinner and palatable dishes served by Garden Dine
with matching lechon baka and lechon baboy on the side.  While the batch mates were having dinner, we started raffling off some prizes/HAU souvenir items.  We gave away a total of 54 prizes that night which include, among others, 10 HAU full fiber throw pillows, 10 HAU T-Shirts white, 5 HAU umbrellas, 5 HAU T-Shirts black, 5 HAU Buddy Bags, 1 flat iron, 1 rice cooker, 1 pressure cooker, 1 2-burner gas stove, 1 portable dvd w/ karaoke, 4 Php500.00 cash courtesy of Ronald Quiambao, another rice cooker from Joy Aboy, 1 oven toaser from Dr. Edgar Nicolas, 1 pillow massager from Luz Tolentino-Acabado, 1 gift item from Nikki Masbang, 1 back pack/bag from Bob Thomas and the major prizes, 5-set (11-piece) rattan/wood furniture items donated by Rowena Canlas of BW Enterprises.  The luckiest winner was batch mate, Amphie Cabrera, who bagged the major furniture set.  I also did not go home empty-handed as I won the back pack/bag donated by Bob.

For fun and entertainment during the dinner and 2nd part of the program, live band music was provided by Red's Band who performed in 3 sets displaying various repertoire of songs from mellow, to jazz, to classic ballroom, to RNB/hip-hop, to disco music of the 80s and 90s.  Batch mates gamely danced the night away in between bottles of San Mig light, iced tea and red wine.  We also conducted 2 parlor games which were facilitated by our Game Master, Dino Gatus - Group Yourselves (8 winners) and Bring Me a Batch Mate (10 winners).  The winners received HAU souvenir mugs, key chains and caps.   Gemma Laquindanum also performed additional intermission numbers singing love songs/duets with Aries Bugaoan (Open Arms) and Ronald Quiambao (Bakit Ngayon Ka Lang).  Another sidelight of the event was the appeal for help of one of our former teachers, Mrs. Avelinda Manaloto, who attended the reunion to ask for assistance in behalf of her ailing 36-year old son who has a kidney disease and is undergoing regular dialysis.  Batch mates responded to the call and immediately pass around a box for voluntary donations.  When tallied by May Fausto, the batch was able to raise more than P11k and this was readily handed out to a very grateful and appreciative Mrs. Manaloto.

Before and during the dinner, video presentations were also flashed on our wide screen showing high school photos/class pictures, photos taken during our medical/dental mission and photos taken during the motorcade and campus tour.  A lot of photos were also taken during the reunion dinner and I'm sure some of them already made their way to various friendster accounts.  We will be uploading some of the photos very soon but only selected photos since our files can't accommodate all the pictures (around 300 photos were taken during the motorcade/campus tour/thanksgiving mass and about 1,000 were taken during the reunion dinner).  We're planning to put them in CDs/DVDs with matching background music and distribute them to batch mates at a very affordable fee (remember our scholarship fund?).  In the next few days, we're also going to start working on our Reunion Primer/Souvenir Program.  We'll be discussing this project in my future emails.

MEDICAL MISSION UPDATE

Check the Medical and Dental Mission Pictures!

11/08/09

I'm very happy and proud to report that our first ever Medical/Dental Mission that was held earlier today at Lourdes Northwest (Pampang) was a resounding Success. Except for an unexpected and uncontrollable glitch - a power outage from 6:30am to 7:30am (talk about Murphy's Law), everything else went smoothly and according to plan. But since we're dealing with mostly senior citizens (medical) and children (dental), you can just imagine the scene on the ground which can be described as a little "chaotic" especially for the medical patients who have fasted for at least 10 to 12 hours and still have to wait in line for their turn on the diagnostic test, ecg and consultation. Both the patients' and the volunteers' patience were tested to the max. But the batch remained calm and cool and considering that this is just our first mission, I honestly think that we did very well and we have achieved our objective - the batch provided medical services to 125 patients and dental services (tooth extractions) to 51 patients.

The success of the acitivity would not have been made possible without the support and assistance of numerous individuals and companies. Allow me to thank them all in this report.

First, we have the volunteer RNs and nursing students (from HAU):

1. Elaine S. Balajadia                          6. Riva Garcia

2. Noriel P. Calaguas                          7. Maleyne T. Policarpio

3. Jose Mari Ferrer (Jesse's Nephew) 8. Ma. Melissa Concepcion (Melite's Sister)

4. Marigrace Aboy (Joy's Sister)          9. Ronald Dizon

5. Jennilyn Aboy (Joy's Sister)

Second, our volunteer doctors and dentists:

1. Dr. Ruben Santos (Melite's Husband)

2. Dr. Debbie Marquez (Doc Ray's wife)

3. Dr. Monette Salvador (Kapitan Marlon's Sister)

4. Dr. Mel Reyes (Doc Jun's wife)

Thirdly, our sponsors and support groups:

1. Getz Pharma and reps

2. LRI Drug Company and reps

3. Solvay Pharma and reps

4. Pfizer and reps

5. LNW Brgy Council and Secretariat

6. LNW Bantay Bayan

7. LNW Senior Citizens Association

8. LNW Health Workers

9. Dino Gatus Catering Services

1. Dr. Ray Marquez      14. Nikita D. Masbang

2. Dr. Edgar Nicolas     15. Mayonette B. Maniago

3. Dr. Ricky Gutierrez   16. Jay Dela Cruz

4. Dr. Jun Reyes           17. Kap. Marlon Enriquez

5. Dr. Melite Concepcion-Santos 18. July David

6. Anabelle Q. Broadnax 19. Gemma Laquindanum

8. Aries D. Bugaoan      21. Christine (Iya) Choy

9. Danny C. Rosales     22. Manny David

10. Alex S. Quiambao    23. Janet S. Josef

11. Dino D. Gatus          24. Maricris Fajardo

12. Jonas V. Pamintuan 25. Enrico Pasion

13. Angela M. Ancheta   26. Joel Zapanta

The activity was very tiring but worth every second of it. It was both a heart warming experience and a confidence-building project for the batch. In our own little way, we have provided some measure of charity, hope, dignity and love to our less fortunate cabalens. For just a few hours, we were able to make them feel important and we were able to make them smile (except, of course, for the tooth extraction patients). The batchmates and volunteers who participated all felt a deep sense of achievement and happiness. As they say in tagalog "nakakataba ng puso" not the cholesterol type but the humanity type. We can't wait to attend the next charity project of the batch. To sum it all up, let me quote a text message sent this afternoon by one of our student volunteers (after the activity), I texted her to thank them for their participation and her reply was "gud pm po, its r pleasure po 2 b a part of d med mission. wer also glad dat wev got d chance 2 mit gud pipol lyk u & d hul batch 88, hu r very much willing 2 lend help & giv support 2 dos pipol in need. may u ol continue to b a blessing 2 others. Tnx po. God bless."

BTW, we also unveiled our batch reunion t-shirt today (the design can now be viewed in our website). This will be our attire come reunion night. Very affordable at Php150.00 each only. Check out our medical mission pics and videos soon so you can get an actual view of the t-shirts. For those who want to reserve/purchase the shirts, kindly give us your sizes (available in XS, Small, Medium, Large, XL-extra cost and XXL-extra cost). To give you an idea of the sizes, July David wore a Large size only. Special thanks to our food committee headed by Dino Gatus and May Fausto. Thank you also to our batch mate who texted me at 6:33am with a message "Good luck to batch 88 medical mission. Laus Deo Semper". The msg came from no. 0019259147209.

Our next batch meeting is on November 15 (Saturday), 7pm Garden Dine. We will now meet weekly since our Grand Reunion is just a month away. Thanks again and God Bless The Great 88.

Regards.

Danny Rosales

11/03/08

Join us this Saturday, November 8, as we embark on an eventful and heart warming activity - a batch sponsored Medical and Dental mission that will benefit around 200 less fortunate cabalens residing at Brgy. Pampang, Angeles City.  It will be held at Pampang's Brgy Hall and Health Center located along Kalayaan St. beside the Lourdes Northwest Elementary School starting at 6:00 am up to 1:00 pm.  We already prepared 150 color-coded stubs for the medical mission to be distributed to 150 senior citizens who will all undergo BP, Blood Sugar, Total Cholesterol and ECG tests and check-ups to be administered by Drs. Ricky Gutierrez, Ray Marquez and Edgar Nicolas.  We have 50 slots available for dental patients who would like to undergo tooth extractions or dental check-ups.  Our volunteer Dentists are Drs. Melite Concepcion-Santos and Liberato "Jun" Reyes.  Our five (5) doctors will be assisted by several volunteers and batchmates, both with medical and non-medical backgrounds.  The volunteers will be assigned at the various stations of the mission which we have already identified earlier (please refer to the email of Alex Quiambao which was also posted at our website).

I'm also happy to announce that even non-batchmates are extending their helping hands and volunteering their services to our worthy cause.  The sisters of Joy Aboy (Grace and Jhen, both RNs I believe), the nephew of Jesse Paraiso (Jomar Ferrer and his classmates who are nursing students at HAU), the daughter of Chaloy Mendoza who's an HRM student, the dentist/brother of Brgy Captain Marlon Enriquez, the health workers of Brgy Pampang and Dr. Marquez' wife, Debbie, a Pediatrician, are just some of the friends of Batch 88 who will join the mission this Saturday.

We will have a pre-activity briefing this Friday night at the barangay hall to inspect and prepare the site (we will have to re-arrange the offices and install make-shift beds, labs and clinics).  Final briefing will be done early Saturday morning before 6:00am.  We hope and pray that everything will run smoothly - according to our plans and expectations.  As for the volunteers' food/merienda, we have assigned May Fausto and Dino Gatus, our Treasurer and Auditor respectively, to handle the culinary dept.  There will be overflowing supply of coffee, juice, pandesal, crackers and biscuits for breakfast and a hearty meal of rice and pork/chicken adobo with boiled egg for lunch plus a bilao or two of our favorite palabok.  Many thanks to Peter Catahan for shouldering part of our food expenses.  A local water refilling station also sponsored our supply of drinking water complete with a provision of hot & cold water dispenser.  After the activity, May Fausto will still travel to Ortigas in Manila to attend a 2-hour Bank Seminar while yours truly will attend a 3:00PM Alumni Meeting at HAU.

It's going to be another busy weekend for Batch 88.  If you have time, please do come and have fun with the rest of our batchmates.  ALSO, we might unveil our much-awaited "The Great 88" Reunion T-shirt this saturday.  So watch out for it.  I'll see you all this saturday at brgy pampang.

Regards and God bless.

10/24/08

Went to Brgy Pampang this afternoon and met with Kapitan/batchmate Marlon Enriquez. I was accompanied by Alex Quiambao, Nikki Masbang and Drs. Ricky Gutierrez and Edgar Nicolas. We discussed the details of the medical mission and inspected the site of the project. Based on what we saw, the Barangay Hall and the adjacent Health Center already provide sufficient space for the acitivity so we will no longer utilize the elementary school. We have already identified which rooms to use for the registration, blood tests (sugar/cholesterol), ECG, consultation/check-up and waiting room for patients. We have also decided to use color coded stubs for the patients i.e. blue - 50 persons (fasting time from 6pm/registration 6am); red - 50 persons (fasting time 7pm/registration 7am); and yellow - 50 persons (fasting time 8pm/registration 8am). We hope that this will somehow smoothen the flow of the procedures and avoid bottlenecks and human traffic. Although we will be assisted by the 3 barangay health workers, we are still short in volunteer nurses/medical assistants (to take BP, conduct blood tests and operate the 2 or 3 ECG machines). If there are willing volunteers, hope they could get in touch with us before the activity.

BTW, our 3 ft x 12 ft Reunion streamer "The Great 88 - 20 on 2008" was hoisted/installed today at the main entrance of HAU. If you happen to pass by Sto. Rosario St. going straight to Villa or turning right going to Nepo Mall/Villa Dolores you will surely see it. So check it out.

10/22/08

Please be informed that our Medical Mission/Charity Project has been moved 1 week ahead of its original schedule from Nov. 15 to NOVEMBER 8 (Saturday). Venue is still Brgy Pampang and the half-day activity will start from 6am to 1pm. For those who are willing to donate used/old clothes or toys, please bring them immediately at BDO SM City Clark c/o May Fausto or Danny Rosales. For those who are interested to take part in the mission, please attend our next batch meeting on Thursday, October 30, 7pm at Garden Dine Restaurant. Thanks and God bless.

10/18/08

I am happy to announce that "The Great 88", as part of its objectives and social responsibility, will finally give back something to the community in the form of a Medical Mission/charity project to be held on November 15, 2008 at Brgy Pampang, Angeles City. The project will be spearheaded by our three (3) young, talented and highly in-demand Doctors/batch mates namely: Dr. Ricky Gutierrez, Dr. Ray Marquez, Jr. and Dr. Edgar Nicolas, Jr. The batch is eyeing around 100-150 indigent/elderly patients from Brgy Pampang. Selection/numbering of patients will be handled by batch mate, Marlon Enriquez, the Brgy Captain. There will be free lab exams/tests (courtesy of our sponsors/drug companies) which include fasting blood sugar (fbs), cholesterol and ECG. The tests will start as early as 6:00am so that patients will be ready for the free consultations/ check-ups to be done by our doctors starting at 8:00am. The project is just a half day event and we expect to wrap up the mission by 1:00pm. There are still talks being made with batch mate, Jun Reyes, in coordination with other dentists/batch mates (Melite Concepcion-Santos, et al), of also including a dental mission on the same date and place. Proposed dental services include free dental check-ups and tooth extractions with a target of around 50 children/patients.

IMPORTANT: ANNOUNCEMENT

1: We are now calling on all available batch mates and/or friends of the batch with backgrounds in medical science, nursing, care giving, physical therapy, etc. for assistance and support on Nov. 15. Although our doctors will competently and undoubtedly do their jobs, they still need assistance in the registration of patients; taking of lab exams/tests and blood pressure; patient screening and profiling; preparation of charts and records; and guiding of patients throughout the whole activity. Even if you don't have backgrounds in medicine and the like, your mere presence will already mean something for the batch.

ANNOUNCEMENT 2:

The batch is now accepting donations of used/old clothes, toys, books, etc. This is also part of the medical/dental mission on Nov 15, an early gift-giving charity activity for all the indigent patients who will take part in the project. Drop-off point of your donations will again be BDO SM Clark (look for May Fausto or Danny Rosales, Monday to Sunday, 10am to 7pm). The donated items will be sorted and categorized before being turned over to the beneficiaries. We look forward to the success of this project. The Great 88 is now opening its arms to the community. I am confident that our batch is now ready for this type of undertaking. But just like in our previous activities, we are counting on your support and cooperation. Our time has come and our time is now.

Thanks and regards. Danny Rosales

March 27, 2010
